Nestle Japan, a subsidiary of the Switzerland-headquartered food and beverages firm, has apparently announced its new healthcare platform to offer consumers with nutritional advice based on their dietary habits and results of DNA and blood tests. As per reliable sources, the announcement is in line with the efforts being deployed by the company, known for its KitKat chocolate and Nescafe coffee brands, to consolidate its stance in the healthcare and medical devices industry.

Reportedly, Nestle has teamed up with Japanese startups such as Halmek Ventures and Genesis Healthcare that examine blood and DNA tests. The firm has further stated that it has formed a partnership with Axa, a France-based insurance company, to build new healthcare services using the customer data of both the firms and promote the Nestle Wellness Ambassador platform across the healthcare and medical devices market.

For the record, Nestle Wellness Ambassador is a flagship healthcare platform of the company which offers subscription-based services comprising sales of specialized green tea-flavored nutritional supplements, with vitamins, calcium or magnesium. According to reliable sources, the platform utilizes Line, a chat app, where consumers can post pictures of their meal which is then examined by AI to identify the nutritional elements lacking in the meal.

Speaking on the latest announcement, Chief Executive Officer of Nestle Japan, Kozo Takaoka was quoted stating that the health strategy in Japan can offer a model for the firm’s behavior in the developed nations where populations are fast aging. He further stated that officials of the firm in Switzerland have been keenly monitoring the innovations at the Japanese division and have visited the nation to witness progress in the recent past.

Sources reveal that healthcare and medical devices industry has been the subject of intense competition, of late, from numerous firms operating in diverse business verticals such as cosmetics, food & beverages, and technology.
