Based on product type, ginger ale market is classified into golden and dry form. Golden ginger ale is dark in colour and cloudy due to residues of brewing. These have bolder and stronger flavour than dry type. Golden type has larger share owing to its use as substitute to alcoholic drinks. Dry type has shown substantial growth with its use as mixer for alcoholic drinks. These are readily available at grocerants, specialist stores and bars. On distribution channel basis, ginger ale market is classified into grocerants, specialist stores, convenience stores, mass merchandisers & independent retailers and online. Grocerants have foremost share as urban and semi urban population choose these owing to ease in availability and better comparison of products. There has been considerable increase in number of stores with major players like Walmart. Mass merchandisers and independent retailers have decent share and witnessing substantial growth with increase in local demand for the product. North America, especially led by U.S. has major share in ginger ale market owing to presence of key players including Canada Dry, Vernors, Seagrams and Buffalo Rock, that in turn increases the product availability. Asia Pacific has shown stable growth due to low yeast content and flavour of high fructose corn syrup. Further, home remedies in countries including India and China are preferred that increases the application of ginger ale. In Japan, these are consumed as hot beverage.

Vernors, founded in 1866, was the first producer of these products. In order to increase its ginger ale market share, it has added online mode in their distribution channel.
