Airwallex, Atome partner to offer BNPL payment services in Singapore

• Airwallex looks forward to expanding this collaboration to strengthen its foothold in other countries

Multinational financial technology company, Airwallex, has reportedly collaborated with BNPL (buy now pay later) provider, Atome to empower its merchants in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Indonesia to offer BNPL as a payment option for customers.

According to sources, this partnership announced at the Singapore Fintech Festival, comes after Airwallex’s formal launch in Singapore, which was disclosed earlier in January.

Apparently, it is the firm’s first-ever team-up with a BNPL provider.

Airwallex also claimed that it looks forward to expanding its partnership with Atome to enable its merchants in Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines to offer BNPL as a payment option to shoppers.

Apart from BNPL, Airwallex offers multi-currency card-based payment solutions to its merchants with Mastercard, Visa and UnionPay, along with over 20 local payment methods.

Speaking on the latest move, Arnold Chan, General Manager of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, Airwallex, mentioned that the firm intends to offer access to businesses for all the benefits of BNPL.

Chan further stated that the access would increase revenues and offer a seamless customer experience for the longer term, empowering the firm to unveil new market opportunities.

Jeremy Wong, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Atome, revealed that BNPL is constantly becoming a popular payment choice amongst shoppers, especially in the rapidly developing Gen Z and millennial customer segment.

Jeremy further stated that this partnership would enable millions of customers to shop and pay via flexible deferred payments at the Airwallex merchants across the region.

It is also worth mentioning that the firm recently secured an additional USD 100 million in its latest Series E2 fundraising round, to bring its total raised funding till today to more than USD 900 million.
