Amazon Inc., the reputed eCommerce giant, has announced that it plans to construct yet another warehouse packaging & distribution unit in Las Vegas, Nevada. Incidentally, the establishment will be inaugurated in 2019 on a site spanning 74,322 sq. meters of vacant area east of Interstate 15 near Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
For the record, the facility is likely to create 1000 full time jobs for the local population. Brian Sandoval, the Governor of Nevada, has stated that with twenty cities in the U.S. competing in a bid to attract Amazon to set up its headquarters, the strategic move made by the online retail firm to choose Las Vegas as its packaging & distribution center will indeed prove highly lucrative for the state of Nevada.
Earlier in January this year, Amazon had rejected Las Vegas for establishing its headquarters after receiving an invitation from the city for redesigning a downtown property, including a convention hall, city library, and a stadium into the company campus. According to The Las Vegas Review Journal, the state economic development agency had invested USD 31,250 for promoting the bid. Incidentally, Las Vegas is already home to Amazon’s sorting & return units along with a warehouse distribution setup for medium-sized consumer electronic goods such as computers.
The first distribution facility of Amazon in the city of Las Vegas was launched last year, claim reports. Back then, the firm had provided full-time employment to nearly 1000 locals while state officials offered tax benefits worth USD 1.8 million to Amazon. As per some of the key officials of the retail firm, the new Warehouse packing and distribution establishment is likely to be a three-storied industrial structure with 2.4 million square feet area. The new set up will make use of robots to pick up, pack, and transport small goods including books, toys, and electronics.
