The Boeing Company, (Boeing), the renowned American multinational aircraft manufacturer, has reportedly announced that it would be sifting the Boeing space and launch division from its current home in Virginia to Titusville, Florida.
Reports cite, the new location lies in the country’s infamous Space Coast, home to a number of crucial spaceflight locations, including the Kennedy Space Center, the 45th Space Wing at Patrick Air Force Base and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
According to a press release by The Boeing Company, the company’s decision to relocate will not have any impact on the company’s other space operations, including the ones located in Texas, California, Alabama, Louisiana and Colorado.
Boeing in its official statement claimed that the relocation is meant to help strengthen integration and collaboration across the company’s portfolio.
The President & CEO at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Leanne Caret stated that the company is looking forward to the future. The space community in Florida would be acting as a center of gravity for the company’s space programs as it continues to build its leadership in space. Caret further added that the time is ideal for the company to shift its space headquarters to a place where much of the world’s space history was made and where much of it still awaits to be made.
The President & CEO of Boeing, Dennis Muilenburg stated that now, as the company’s programs are successfully transitioning from their development phase to the operation phase, it is the right time for the company to make the move.
The company’s decision to relocate to Florida, while bringing more investment to the Space Coast, further highlights the state’s position as the nation’s foremost avenue of space innovation & job growth.
According to reports, the relocation of the space and launch division is expected to reach completion by the end of 2019.
