Google boots The Federalist & ZeroHedge for publishing racist content

Google, a multinational technology company, is reportedly booting its online website, The Federalist, for publishing discriminatory content related to the ongoing protests over police violence.

Sources familiar with the matter have stated that The Federalist and ZeroHedge have violated the company’s policy against monetizing various content that promotes intolerance, violence, hatred, and racial discrimination. Sources further added that Google takes up necessary actions against any page or site that violates its policies. The company has removed both the websites’ ability to monetize from content with Google.

However, Google’s spokesperson, Christa Muldoon, has stated that the company has not demonetized The Federalist. However, it has maintained strict longstanding publisher policies regarding the monetization through content ads, including comments on the website.

The technology company reportedly added that the issues arose from comments sections of both sites that violate its policies against the derogatory and dangerous content. Google has apparently issued a warning to The Federalist to remove the content. However, ZeroHedge had been warned previously and was demonetized for not fixing the violations.

For instance, ZeroHedge published content that claimed the current protests are fake, while The Federalist issued a content narrating that the media inaccurately reported the happenings at the public demonstrations. The Federalist has reportedly reached out to the company to gain information about which articles prompted the action.

The CCDH (Center for Countering Digital Hate) has recently given a report to the company regarding the sharing of racist content related to the protests across a large number of the U.S. sites, including ZeroHedge and The Federalist, noting that these sites stand to obtain large sums via the ad platform of Google.

The Federalist and ZeroHedge have been under scrutiny by various tech giants in the past. For example, Twitter removed a tweet, which informed ‘controlled voluntary infection’ as a solution for treating the COVID-19 disease, from The Federalist. The tweet violated its policies of sharing content that put readers at a higher risk of spreading the coronavirus.
