The largest two-wheeler electric vehicle manufacturer of India, Hero Electric, has reportedly announced a partnership with Massive Mobility to deploy 10,000 EV chargers for two-wheelers across the country. This move comes in a bid to widen its charging infrastructure by ten times.
Delhi-based EV company Massive Mobility provides end-to-end solutions for EV charging. The company will deploy close to 10,000 EV chargers over the next year across cities where Hero witnesses the highest sale numbers.
Co-Founder of Massive Mobility, Shailesh Vickram Singh, affirmed the development but did not disclose anything further. Under the agreement, the charging stations deployed will consist of a simple charging connection of 16 amp, a meter along with a Wi-Fi network. More importantly, the network will be open for all-electric vehicles and not just Hero EVs.
Recently, Ather did the same with its network, in a move to accelerate the growth of the EV system and encourage further manufacturer standardization.
As per credible reports, the Wi-Fi network will help users establish their profile within the Hero Electric application, monitor current usage, and make flawless payments. The payments will be performed using the UPI framework.
Hero Electric and Massive Mobility operated a trial for a fortnight to evaluate user behavior while utilizing their charging stations. This included checking whether users charge their EVs completely in one attempt or use them to top up their EV charge.
Reports suggest that Massive Mobility secured funds in 2019 from Vijay Shekhar Sharma of Paytm, Singapore-based RB Investments, and India Quotient. Presently, the company is holding talks with two major e-comm firms to help in charging for their fleet of EVs.
Currently, Hero Electric has over 1,000 charging stations across 125 cities In India. However, it faces stiff competition from the likes of TVS, Ola Electric, Ather Energy, Bajaj among others. Therefore, this tenfold rise in the charging infrastructure of Hero will possibly make its vehicles an attractive prospect.
