India Post teams up with TCS to modernize 1.5 lakh post offices
TCS has designed and implemented the Core System Integration (CSI) program for the transformation
India Post has reportedly teamed up with global leading IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services to launch innovative services, enhance customer experience, modernize the delivery of packages and mail, and to become a multi-service digital hub.
According to the press release by Tata Consultancy Services, the company has executed its Point of Sale (PoS) solution at around 24,000 post offices with more than 80,000 PoS terminals. This implementation is amongst the world’s largest such implementations. It has developed a web portal to track consignments. It has also started a multi-lingual call center for customer support.
The web portal has an e-marketplace which will help self-help groups, women entrepreneurs and rural artisans in reaching out to buyers throughout the country. This will allow India Post to benefit from the rapidly increasing e-commerce opportunity and fulfill an important social obligation.
Debashis Ghosh, Business Group Head, Public Services, TCS, reportedly stated that the postal services around the world have been reinventing themselves to stay relevant to the new generation in this digital era. The company is proud to partner with the Department of Posts in the mission mode initiative to build a future-ready, world class digital platform to make the nation proud, he added.
Reportedly, the company has designed and implemented the Core System Integration (CSI) program for the transformation. The deployment of an integrated ERP solution has been involved in the program that caters to HR functions, mail operations and finance and accounting. It has become the world’s largest distributed ePostal network by connecting over 150,000 post offices.
The integrated solution is developed to cater the future needs and immense scale of the Department. It will process more than 3 million postal transactions a day, support the HR needs of more than 500,000 employees and service more than 40,000 concurrent users. This makes it the world’s largest SAP implementations.
