Panasonic stops some component shipments to Huawei amid US ban

The U.S. has recently lessened the restrictions on Huawei temporarily to reduce disruption for customers.

Japan-based Panasonic Corporation has reportedly announced that it has suspended shipments of some specific components to Huawei Technologies to adhere with the U.S. ban on the Chinese company.

Reportedly, Panasonic has instructed employees to stop transactions with Huawei and its 68 affiliates covered by the U.S. ban.

Panasonic has no major production site for components in the U.S., but the goods having 25 percent or more of the materials or technologies created by the U.S. will be banned.

Panasonic has declined to comment on which components are subject to the ban and where they are produced.

Last week, the U.S. commerce department blocked Huawei from buying U.S. goods. The department stated that Chinese company had been involved in activities contrary to national security.

Reportedly, the U.S. has been advising its allies to restrict the use of products of Huawei in their 5G services. Huawei gear has been effectually banned in the U.S. owing to the Trump administration’s argument that the firm poses cybersecurity threat. Australia and New Zealand have taken measures to limit the use of Huawei gear. However, it has continued to be the key supplier in Europe.

For the uninitiated, Huawei recently won the Best All Rounder Award for its Optical Networking 2.0 (ON2.0) solution at 21^st Next Generation Optical Networking (NGON) Event. It is another world-class award after Huawei’s 400G winning the Best Single-Channel Programmable 400 G Product Award at the 20th NGON last year. The award represents the international recognition of Huawei's optical network products and technologies by the optical networking sector.

For the record, Huawei technologies Company Ltd., is a Chinese global technology company which offers telecommunications equipment and markets consumer electronics. The company is headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.
